Intro
I just finished watching all five seasons of The Bureau, and it is one of my favorite TV shows I have ever watched. The show is about the DGSE, the French version of the CIA. It follows one main character for five seasons. It mixes some of the best elements of Homeland, 24, The Americans, and John Le Carre novels. It also avoids the implausible super-hero-level antics that characters had to resort to in those shows. Those antics may have upped the narrative intensity, but they did so at the expense of being realistic. Jack Bauer was cool, but sort of cartoonish at times.
I also rewatched all the Mission Impossible movies with my kids. They hold up very well, even the first one which is almost 26 years old. I saw it in the movie theater when it came out, which makes me feel old. The kids loved the movies and found them to be very exciting. The first one is still my favorite, though the third and sixth were close behind. The fourth and fifth movies were stupid.
Next up I am going to read a book by Olga Tokarczuk called Flights. I’ve wanted to read the book for a few years and I’m finally getting around to it, just as her new work, The Books of Jacob, is about to be released in the US.
There’s a new song out by an artist named GAYLE called abcdefu. It’s all about a breakup. I heard Elvis Duran interview her on the radio and then my kids and I became obsessed with the song. The language is very inappropriate, but we’ve been singing it nonstop for the past week.
Prince Andrew
Queen Elizabeth took all of Prince Andrew's special honors away from him as punishment for screwing kids with Jeffrey Epstein. I’m not sure that has any practical significance. The whole royal family is appalling. It’s not like there is only one of them that is diddling kids. This entire family has been up to no good for a long time. Don’t forget there was that Nazi one who retired and got sent away. They’re all drunks (not that there’s anything wrong with that – so am I). Remember how Diana had a kid with her bodyguard and then got divorced and they killed her because she was dating a Muslim. I was hoping they would go full Diana on Andrew and have him whacked. He’s only in trouble because he got caught.
Now you have the most indolent one, that disgusting ginger, who moved to California for his Netflix deal. Was the highlight of 2021 when he went on Oprah, and they acted like there was some big reveal that his family of interdimensional shape-shifting lizards was racist? Who on earth was surprised by that?
